How to Use this Worksheet

In this third grade math worksheet, there are 15 questions on 3-digit numbers addition (regrouping) with 1 solved example. Each question contains two 3-digit numbers with empty space for the sum. Students are required to write the sum of corresponding place values of two three digit numbers together as like in the given solved example of this online workbook.

Regrouping
If the sum of Ones place values exceeds more than 9 or is a 2 digit number, the One’s place value of sum must be written underneath to the Ones place values of addends and the Ten’s place value of sum must be added to the sum of addends of Tens place values. Similarly, if the sum of Tens place values exceeds more than 9 or is a 2 digit number, the One’s place value of sum must be written underneath to the Tens place values of addends and the Tens place value of sum must be added to the sum of addends of Hundreds place values. If there is no adjacent place values, the two digit number should be written underneath to the corresponding place values.

For example, lets assume 456 and 789 are the two given 3-digit numbers. Being addition, the same place values of 2 3-digit numbers should be added together. From right to left, the same place valued digits 6 and 9, 5 and 8 & 4 and 7 should be added together and the answer should be written underneath to the corresponding place values. The sum of 6 and 9 is 15, since write the 5 underneath to the One’s place value and the remaining digit 1 of 15 (Ten’s place of 15) should be added to the sum of left adjacent place value. Therefore, the left adjacent sum becomes 5 + 8 + 1 = 14. For 14, the One’s place value 4 should be written underneath to the Ten’s place value of the addition and the remaining 1 of 14 should be added to left adjacent place values of addition. Therefore, the left adjacent sum becomes 4 + 7 + 1 = 12. Being 3-digit numbers addition, there is no further adjacent place values, since append the 12 on the left hand side to previous result 45. Hence, the sum of 456 and 789 is 1245.
